Post 8: English language challenges

Hello again everyone, I’m here to comment on my experience with English.

Well, I have always been interested in improving my English because, in the future, I would like to travel or make an exchange to another country, and I know that English it’s important to make more easy that experience.

About my experience learning English at university, I can say that I like the methodology and the content, especially the current level, I think it's great that all of us can participate in the different activities even if it's difficult sometimes.

I think making a blog is a good idea because we can practice our grammar and how to complete sentences correctly, also the topics are really interesting and it’s an opportunity to read and share some opinions with the class, which it’s really cool.

I know I need to improve my English, especially speaking it, in the last time I start to watch movies or series in English with subtitles in English too, so I try to repeat what I listen to in the dialogue. I think this it’s a good method to practice and I hope soon I can watch them only with the original audio.

Outside the English class, I could say that I regularly use it as a language, especially in songs and movies, and obviously when I make the blogs for this class.

So, this is officially my last blog. I hope everyone has a wonderful end of the year and celebrations.

Post 7: Changes to my study programme

Hello! In today's blog I am going to talk about the changes in my architecture study program.

First of all, I think the curriculum provides the necessary knowledge for any student who wants to dedicate to architecture, if I were to make an addition to the study program, I think I would probably like to see more workshops in relation to graphic programs. This is complete to relate with the use of technology in the career because the constant use of technological tools is essential, so it's something that we must all be faced with.

As for the workload, in my opinion it is a lot and many times this has led to affecting the mental health of the students. I also think that in some way this has become normalized in architecture, which is a terrible thing. For the same, I would like that teaching methods can improve in some cases, as it's necessary for some teachers to understand and be able to carry out a correct teaching methods that do not harm the learning process of their students.

In relation to length of studies, in my opinion if the curriculum reduced the content of some courses, it could be shorter than it's today.

In my experience in FAU, I could say that the infrastructure is not completely adequate to develop all the necessary activities, there is precariousness in some rooms, lack of study spaces and more. I also think that it's quite small, however there is not much relationship between the other careers and neighboring faculties. One of the things I remember the most is that there was no suitable place to have lunch or eat, which is necessary on any university campus.

Post 6: Time travel to the future

Hello everyone, this blog it's about one of the most fascinating concepts in science, but the truth is no one knows for sure, so today I’m going to talk about where I would like to travel in the future.

If I think about where to go in the future, I would probably like to go to the year 3000, almost 1000 years apart from now. I know maybe this is too far, and the year 3000 is a long time to estimate how the world might turn out, however, I think at that time we will experiment a developing artificial intelligence, this topic its makes me curious about how we will coexist with robots, If I’m think about it, there are many scenarios, on one side this could be one of the most develoment as civilization, but there is no certainty that we will be able to control such a thing, we might be thinking about if will it have good morals or intentions, artificial intelligence is scary but one of the biggest questions today.

About a specific place, I really don’t know if we still inhabit the world as we know it, probably we have inhabited our nearby planets and making interplanetary travel, or who knows if we would be travelling between solar system or galaxies, another question that comes to mind is whether we will find another civilization in the universe.

Well, there are many questions about what will it be and the world in the year 3000 would probably be strange, so If I travel to the future, I'll probably stay for a while and then, I'll go back to my present.

Post 5: My future job

Hi guys!

For me it was difficult to think about my future job some time ago, because I wasn’t sure about the job or career that I wanted to dedicate my whole life to.

As I have mentioned in my old blogs, I'm study architecture. I decided to enter this career mainly because of my artistic abilities, at that time I consulted with my parents and investigated other options, finally I concluded that architecture was my best option and today I can say that I wasn’t wrong.

When the time comes, I would like to start working in an office with other architects and professionals to learn more about my profession, and after a few years to I would like to form my own office and be independent. I'm not entirely sure if I prefer an indoor or outdoor working mode, I think I'd like to try both options at different times in my life; but something that I'm one hundred percent convinced is that I would like to travel and visit many countries in the world, and I think the best option is to do it while doing my job. About salary, when I entered this career, I investigated about it, but currently I do not know much, I just hope that it allows me to enjoy things in life without major worries, I do not ask for more.

To be honest, I won't like to dedicate my whole life to architecture. In the future, I would like to explore other areas because I feel that there are many things that I would like to do, for the same reason I do not feel that my ideal life would be to dedicate only to what I decided to study, and I believe that the future can also bring new opportunities that I can enjoy and learn from.

Post 4: Free topic

 Hello everyone!

This blog is dedicated to one of my favorite bands, Alice in Chains.

The band was formed in 1997 in Seattle, by singer Layne Staley and guitarist Jerry Cantrell, with them shortly after they were joined by bassist Mike Starr and the drummer Sean Kinney completing the band. In 1990, they recorded and released their first EP called Facelift, with a clear influence of metal or hard rock, but also with the grunge movement that began to become more popular in Seattle in the late 80s and early 90s.

Their next album was “Dirt” where the single “Would?” comes from, this song one of the band's biggest hits. They then recorded two more albums: “Jar of Flies” (my favorite) and “Alice in Chains”, which was the last album with the original vocalist Layne Staley there.

In the year 1996, they recorded for MTV Unplugged, where they played songs from their albums in acoustic version, if someone didn't know about this band, I recommend you watch this performance; the atmosphere, vocals, instruments, in short, everything it's amazing. In my opinion, Alice in Chains' Unplugged is the most memorable performance ever.

To finish, I decided to talk about AIC because this band marks a very special time of my life since I was a child, and I really admire them, so I want to recommend my favorite songs from them: “Confusion” and “Rotten Apple".

Post 3

Hi!

I’m in my third year of architecture and today I'll talk you about something that really interests me, the architecture in cinema.

When I watch a film, I really like to see how the architecture can create different atmosphere in a film and can make different scenarios to make a different storyline. Both are arts that can be perfectly combined  to broadcast to the viewer the things that the director want to. The film “La Grande Bellezza” is an example of how the architecture can be protagonist even if it’s not. In there, Italy is the set of all the sequence; the churches, palaces or ruins of ancient Rome are the perfect environment to express the pure decadence that its protagonist is going through, even in the most beautiful way.

La Grande Bellezza (2013)

In cinema, are many ways of how architecture works through different situations, in the film “Parasite” is another film where the architecture is part of the perspective and metaphors between the two families; other example is “Her” where the colors (predominantly red) and the minimalistic style in the interior spaces they can show the mood of the situations in each scene.

Parasite (2019)

Her (2013)

Architecture is definitely in anywhere and I think it’s amazing how you can work in different areas, I think it's one of the best things from this career.

Post 2: The best concert ever

Hello again!

In my life, I've only been to one concert, that was from Paramore in 2013 at the Movistar Arena. For those of you who don't know, Paramore is an American rock-pop band formed in 2008 integrated by the lead vocalist Hayley Williams, guitarist Taylor York, and drummer Zac Farro, but when I went to the concert, bassist Jeremy was part of the band.

I was only thirteen and it was my first time in Santiago, so I was very excited about it. I went with my friend (which was also her first concert) and we waited to get in for like 3-4 hours, but it was definitely worth it, I think it’s one of the best experiences that I had. The show was amazing and we enjoyed every second there, we jumped and sang every song and the time goes by so fast, we didn’t want the concert to finish. I also remember that when the members of the band said goodbye to us, nobody wanted to leave and then they come back, it was a very exciting experience.
